The Positivity Principle
Went for a run this morning with a friend to start the new year off right. Working to make it better than last year.
Today in my poetry creative writing class my professor said something along the lines of ‘anything that interests you is worthy of your attention’. This statement was really powerful to me. He was talking specifically about writing poetry about anything that interests you without it needing to be extremely deep, but I also think the statement applies to other areas. For instance, I used to feel bad about picking some books to read because they were just fluffy books, but really if they interest me they are worth my time. It isn’t a waste to do something that makes you happy.

So there is a typo in this photo, but I still love it. I was reading this the other day as I was going through some tough things, and it really helped me. I started focusing on my breathing and telling myself that the world is beautiful and I wouldn’t be hard or hateful. Sometimes there are things that make us want to give in to the bad, but I know that staying positive is the solution.
“Ask yourself this question: ‘Will this matter a year from now?’”
This morning we had our fire drill at the sorority house around 5:40 a.m. Obviously this was inconvenient for some girls, but since my alarm was set to go off at 6:15 anyway so I could go to a fitness class at the gym it wasn’t a big deal to me. Since I was up a little earlier than needed I got some work done and was definitely awake in time for the class. Unfortunately I got to the gym and waited for the instructor for 15 minutes after the time the class was supposed to start and she never showed up. This happened last week, too, and it was a bummer. However, it really doesn’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things because as the photo says it won’t matter in a year and I probably won’t even remember (except for this post reminding me). So I just worked out on my own and have my amazing early start to my day that I have started to love. So don’t get caught up in the little things that don’t matter!
